Pouring Wines for a Event – A First

My first wine event!

Last month, I had a chance to select, open & pour wines to a select few colleagues

Wines Poured:

  • Bedrock Wine Co. Mourvedre Ode to Lulu Old Vine Rosé, 2015
  • Francine et Olivier Savary Chablis, 2014
  • Château de Puligny-Montrachet Bourgogne Blanc Clos du Château, 2013
  • Pierre Gonon Vin de Pays de l’Ardèche Les Iles Feray, 2014
  • Liocco Pinot Noir, 2013

The experience to be honest was a mixed bag. Its really hard to pick wines on a budget. When opening wines at home, there are only self-imposed rules but when selecting to pour at an event, the ability to integrate various wines at a price point really makes it a hard job. Also, keeping a generic palate is very hard. As a nut for Pinot/Chard/Syrah and Rieslings; I tend to overlook other wines but in a communal setting, wine is just another enhancer for a social gathering and many don’t take it seriously and you need to be aware of the limitations of the wines.

The positives actually was that the experience was invaluable. For once, I saw how little people cared to listen to the story of the wine and how many just defaulted to their own choices. Nothing wrong in it, sometimes education just needs to take a back seat.

All in all, fun experience. Looking forward to hosting more of these soon.
